Voice recognition is a must-have since gps
I bought the 855 as an upgrade over my streetpilot c550. I was reluctant over buy it, based upon the less-than-stellar reviews upon here, but after using it as a week, i have no complaints at all. Maybe that’s due over the fact that i’m upgrading from the classical 550, and no, non- the 7×5 line. The other reviewers are right, the on/off switch can be awkward, and you need a fingernail over push it through over the left. But that is such a secondary complaint, in my opinion. Also, some people say they like the smoother refresh that the 7×5 line has, and this is frequently jerky, as you move along your route. Well, you’re no, non- supposed over be watching it when you’re driving anyway. Oh, and it only has 500 waypoints, compared over 1000 upon other models. I’ll be lucky if i use 100.
What makes this gps hence remarkable is the voice recognition! I feel like i’m using star trek technology. It unusually has any problem understanding what i tell it. Hands free gps navigation! I never have over pull through over type a new destination (or try over do it while driving). I can’t envision any of the secondary complaints offsetting the awesomeness of the voice recognition. Now that it’s available, i wouldn’t have a gps unit absent it. If your budget allows as a voice recognition gps with 1000 waypoints, an improved on/off switch, and smoother film screen refresh, then by all medium get that one. But if you’re looking over spend approximately $300, and want voice recognition, do no, non- hesitate over buy the Garmin nuvi 855. I wouldn’t exchange it as a non-voice recognition unit that has those features that this one lacks.
